Engineering informed by graphic design
I build web and mobile products with React and React Native, taking responsibility from early planning through release and the improvements that follow. I work closely with clients, designers, and engineers to turn complex needs into software that is clear, useful, and maintainable.
01 / Selected work
That way of working has taken different forms. Whether I am building a public website, an internal tool, or a mobile app for a connected product, I start with the people who need it and stay with the details that make the whole experience work.
Some project names, imagery, and details are kept general to respect client confidentiality.
A released iOS and Android app for limited commercial use in secure physical access. Authorized users can operate and program connected locks through Bluetooth, with authentication, PIN entry, and permission checks. Device audit logs record lock operations so activity is traceable. An NFC-based hardware version is in development.
A released iOS and Android app for upcoming consumer portable battery packs, from charging phones to powering a campsite. It is designed to let users manage a pack locally over Bluetooth or remotely when it connects over Wi-Fi, with AWS supporting user and device authentication.
A Material Design-based component library that helps teams start custom client applications quickly and gives designers and developers a shared vocabulary.
A well-monitoring dashboard that brings sensor readings and reported failures together so technicians can identify problems affecting water access in remote African communities.
A welcoming digital home for UC Irvine’s School of Medicine, bringing education, research, healthcare, and community resources together in a clear, audience-focused experience.
I led the Drupal website and embedded React tournament app, integrating MaxPreps data. Drupal Views and query-string routing let visitors switch tournament content without a full-page reload and share links to specific tournaments.
02 / Career path
My path from print design to software has been shaped by changing tools and the needs of the people using them. Each transition adds to how I approach the next.
I began in print production and graphic design, learning to think about what an audience needs to see and understand. As the print business declined, I looked toward digital work.
I carried that design foundation into interactive projects, learning Flash and ActionScript to make experiences people could explore and use.
When Flash faded, I brought design and interaction into web development: first HTML and CSS, then JavaScript applications built with React and Vue.
The same frontend skills now carry into React Native apps for connected products. At Twisthink, I own the mobile experience and coordinate work across hardware, cloud services, and design.
AI is the newest tool I have added to that foundation. I use it to explore options, prototype, and implement features while I remain responsible for the decisions, review, and quality of what ships.

Senior Software Engineer
As the sole frontend engineer, I own web interfaces and nearly all application engineering for two released React Native apps. I continue to iterate on both, contribute to their design, and collaborate with teammates responsible for specialized BLE and NFC security layers. I also build TypeScript APIs that let app developers work with connected devices without handling device-specific message formats directly.

Led development of Drupal websites and embedded React applications for education, athletics, arts, and public-sector organizations. Built shared site structures and integrated external data, ticketing, registration, and permission-controlled financial workflows.

Lead Technologist
Led frontend development for major consumer brands, including Ford, Kellogg’s, Cottonelle, and Walmart, as well as pro bono projects for nonprofit organizations. Delivered responsive websites and application features using React, Vue, Adobe AEM, and Drupal.

Managed graphic design, image manipulation, print preparation, and digital press operations.

Worked directly with arts and education clients on responsive websites, marketing, branding, and graphic design, much of it for theatrical productions. Concurrent theatre technical direction involved production planning and crew coordination.

05 / What carries through
While studying theatre technology at DePaul, I discovered graphic design. That became the starting point for my career in print and interactive media, then frontend engineering and mobile apps. I continued theatre technical direction as side work, where production planning and crew coordination strengthened skills I still use with clients and teams. Today I draw on all of it to connect goals, design, and engineering and to carry products through release and improvement.
